Ch 10 - Cell Divison And Growth Flashcards
(19 cards)
Cell division
When a growing cell splits into two daughter cells
Mitosis
The fist stage in cell division, division of the cell nucleus
Cytokinesis
The second rate of cell division, splitting of the cytokinesis
Chromatid
Before cell division, each chromosome is replicated causing each chromosome to have two identical “sister” chromatids
Centromere
Where each chromatid is attached together, located in the middle
Interphase
The “in between” period of growth in a cell
Cell cycle
Series of events that cells go through as they grow and divide
Prophase
Chromosomes become visible, spindle forms
Centriole
Strictures located in the cytoplasm near the nuclear envelope, on opposite parts of the nucleus
Spindle
A fanlike micro tube that helps separate the chromosomes
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up across the center of the cell, each chromosome is connected to a spindle fiber at its centromere
Anaphase
Sister geomatics separate into individual chromosomes and are moved apart
Telophase
Chromosomes gather at opposite ends of the cell and lose their distinct shapes, two new nuclear envelops form
Cancer
When cells lose the ability to control growth
Cyclin
Regulate the timing of the cell cycle in eukaryotic cells
G1
Cell growth
S phase
DNA replication
G2
Prep for mitosis
M phase
Cell division
