Ch 11 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Two classifications of movement patterns
- Linear or translatory
2. Angular or rotary
Translatory (linear) motion
What are the two forms of translatory motion?
An object is translated as a whole from one location to another
- rectilinear: straight line progression
- sledding down a hill - curvilinear- curved translatory movement
- rolling a bowling ball
Circular motion in regard to curvilinear
Object moves a long a circumference of a circle, a constant curved path
Angular/rotary motion
Example?
Object acting as a radius moves about a fixed point, or axis
- measured as angles or degrees
Ex: door, joint, wheel
General motion
Combo of linear and angular motion
Repititive movement (2)
Reciprocating movements
Oscillating movements
Reciprocating movement
Repetitive linear movement
Ex: boucing ball
Oscillating movement
Repetitive movement in an arc
Ex: playground swing
Factors that determine the lind of motion
Examples?
Object with one fixed point (lever) permits angular only
Freely movable can permit angular and linear depending on where the force is applied in reference to its center of gravity
