Ch 17 Flashcards
(9 cards)
The synthesis of a polypeptide using the genetic information encoded in an mRNA molecule
Translation
The synthesis of RNA using DNA template
Transcription
A sequence w/in a primary transcript that remains in the RNA after RNA processing
Exon
A non-coding, intervening sequence w/in a primary transcript that’s removed from the transcript during RNA processing
Intron
An RNA molecule that functions as an enzyme
Ribozyme
A nucleotide triplet at one end of a tRNA molecule that base-pairs w/a particular complementary codon on an mRNA molecule
Anticodon
RNA molecules that together w/proteins, make up ribosomes
rRNA
An RNA molecule that functions as a translator btwn nucleic acid and protein languages by carrying specific amino acids to the ribosome, where they recognize the appropriate codons in the mRNA
tRNA
A type of RNA, synthesized using a DNA template, that attaches to ribosomes in the cytoplasm and specifies the primary structure of a protein
