Ch 33 Nervous System Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is the CNS? What does it consist of?
Central nervous system consist of the brain and spinal cord
What is PNS? What does it consist of?
Peripheral nervous system consist of nerves that carry messages to CNS
What 4 processes are involved to carry a response to a stimulus?
Reception
Transmission
Integration
Response
Explain the 4 processes that carry a response to a stimulus?
RECEPTION a stimulus must be detected
TRANSMISSION the message is passed along the neuron on PNS which then carry a message to or from the CNS
INTEGRATION the messages is processed and the CNS in the brain decide a response
RESPONSE effectors stimulate by nuerons
What is a neuron?
A nerve cell
Can carry information from one place to another
What is a sensory neuron?
Afferent
Sensory neuron takes a message from Sense organ to the CNS
What is a motor neuron?
Efferent
Motor neuron takes a message from CNS to a muscle or gland
What are 3 types of neurons?
Sensory
Motor
Interneuron
What is a interneuron?
Carries messages between sensory and motor nueron.
