Ch. 6 OsseousTissue & Bone Structure Flashcards
(13 cards)
What’s in the Skeletal System?
bones cartilage ligaments connective tissue
What are the functions of the Skeletal System?
support storage of minerals (calcium) storage of lipids (yellow marrow) blood cell production (red marrow) protection leverage (force of motion)
Bone shape?
long (limbs) or short (ankle/wrist) flat (skull, sternum, ribs, scapula) sutural (small, flat bones of the skull) irregular (complex shape) sesamoid (small, flat, near tendons/ joint)
Bone markings?
depressions/grooves (along bone surface) projections (tendon/ligament attach, articulations with other bones) tunnels (where blood and nerves enter bone)
Sutural Bones
Small, flat, irregularly shaped, between flat bones
Irregular Bones
complex shapes with short, flat, notched or ridged surfaces
Short Bones
Small, boxy
Flat Bones
This, parallel surfaces
Long Bones
Long and slender

Scapula / Clavical

Acrimal End / Body / Sternal End

Glenoid Fasa

Coracoid Process
