A

sense of touch
assess: texture, temp, moisture, organ size and location, swelling, tenderness, presence of masses
should be performed slow and systematic
start with light and proceed to deep
walking fingers/circles with fingertips
use back of hand for temp checks
tapping person’s skin with short sharp strokes to assess underlying structures

A

listening to sounds produced by body
does not amplify sound, just blocks other sounds out
bell - small side for soft pitched sounds
diaphragm - big side for higher pitched sound (heart, lung, belly)
don’t listen through pt gown or clothing
don’t listen over body hair
