Population
is the entire group that you want to draw conclusions about.
sample
is the specific group that you will collect data from
Parameters
are numbers that summarize data for an entire population.
Statistics
are numbers that summarize data from a sample, i.e. some subset of the entire population.
Descriptive statistics
deals with methods of organizing, summarizing, and presenting data in a convenient and informative way.
Inferential statistics
deals with methods of making estimates, predictions, or decisions about a population based on sample data.
significance level
is a measure of reliability that measures how frequently the conclusion about a population will be wrong in the long run.
confidence level
is a measure of reliability that measures the proportion of times that an estimating procedure will be correct.
statistical inference
Statistical inference is the process of making an estimate,
prediction, or decision about a population based on a sample.
