Data Collection
is the systematic gathering of information on targeted variables in an established pattern, which allows for precise and accurate answers to research questions. It’s a fundamental step in any research or investigation.
survey
is simply a type of observational study where the subjects self-report their own behaviors, attitudes or conditions.
Sampling
is the process of choosing a smaller group from a larger population for study. It’s used when it’s not practical to study everyone in the population.
Simple Random Sample
a sample selected in such a way that every possible sample with the same number of observations likely to be chosen
Stratified Random Sample
Obtained by separating the population into mutually exclusive sets, or strata, and thend rawing simple random samples from each stratum.
Sampling error
difference between what a sample predicts and the true population parameter. Occurs because a sample is being used to make inferences about an entire population
