- returned in her 70s, she was penned by press in EU but a success in the states
- died on jan 10th 1971 at the hotel Ritz

The dress basics
A
- 1938 evening dress
- made from black silk net decorated with polycheme sequins
- probably influenced by men’s clothes and for comfort due to baggier style
- chunky pattern w a more intricate pattern within the large patten

A
- To be glamorous and subtly eye-catching (sequins instead of bright colours)
- comfy, easy to wear
- loose fitting for a better swing and more movement

A
- previous 1910 fashion had been long skirt and sleeves
- so the short skirt and and sleeveless dress would be more appealing to younger women in their 20s or 30s

- she was a seamstress first
- clothing wasn’t really produced in factories then
- made on sewing machines and sequins by hand

Feeling
A
- lots of sequins = quite heavy! but gives it more movement and look stunning in light
- colour kept at minimum, signature of Chanel (only black and gold present)
- detail in the pattern

- she was just raising to fame
- materials and attention to detail would have made the dress very expensive
- also paying for the name
