Chap 17 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Dynamic equilibrium
Forward/reverse process cancel out
Static equilibrium
Forces in balance, nothing moves
Chemical equilibrium
Is always dynamic, no net change but molecules never stop reacting
Reaction quotient (Q)
At any point in a reaction, the value or the equilibrium expression can be calculated
K
Is related to the free energy of the reaction
Le chatelier’s principle
Equilibrium will shift (forward/reverse) so as to counter any change
Add a reactant (lc)
Increases molarity which causes equilibrium to shift towards product
Pressure change (lc)
Pressure increase ( the reaction vessel made smaller) equilibrium will shift direction that reduces the miles of gas
Effect of temp (lc)
Find delta h. If negetive shifts left
