Chap 17: Analysis And Interpretation Of Data Flashcards
(28 cards)
A process to sort, reduce, organize, and give meaning to the data collected
DATA ANALYSIS
Process of organizing numerical data into a series of steps for purposes of analysis and interpretation, and to ensure precise, accurate and conclusive findings
QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS
This phase consists of various activities such as clerical and administrative tasks
Pre analysis phase
The researcher outlines activities to anticipate major problems that may arise while dealing with her data
Preliminary Assessment of Data
Those people who participate in the study but no response was given on a certain variable
NON-RESPONSE BIAS
These are characteristics of the subjects who did not conform with the inclusion criteria
SELECTION BIAS
Those people who did and did not participate in the study
ATTRITION BIAS OR DROPOUT RATE
Phase in which the researcher prepares data for computer use prior to analyses and interpretation
Preliminary Actions
The researcher can now proceed with substantive data analysis having cleaned data, problems are resolved regarding missing data, and data transformation are completed
Principal Analysis
Research findings must have substantive bearing with the objectives of the study
Interpretation of the results
Inferences of empirical studies must be based on truthfulness of evidence gathered
Credibility of Results
Research outcomes must be within the context of the hypotheses testing with precise information and estimates
Meaningfulness of the results
Research findings are significant or important if group responses and differences are well observed
Importance of result
Research findings are applicable to a wider population
Generalizability of the Results
Once the study has established credibility, meaning, importance, and generalizability of results, the researcher can now make recommendations
Implications of results
This consists of statements with numerals or numbers to describe data
Textual Form
It is the means used in organizing and presenting data in a systematic way in which numerical/statistical data are arranged in rows and columns
Tabular Form
Parts of the statistical table
- Table number
- Title
- Headnote
- Stub
- Box head
- Main body or field / text
- Footnote
These are cited when presenting the numerical value of the study
Table number
It states the variable or specific indicators of the study, from whim the data were gathered and the manner of measuring data
Title
This is written below the title, usually enclosed in a parenthesis. It explains data on the table that is not clear
Headnote
This contains sub-head and the row labels
Stub
It contains the master captions that describe the column captions
Box head
