Ally
A nation that works with another nation for a common purpose.
French, and Indian War
A war that was part of a larger war called the Seven Year’s War that involved conflicts not just in North America, but also in Europe, and Asia.
Albany Plan of Union
A plan that was an attempt to create “one general government” for the British Colonies.
Treaty of Paris
Treaty of Paris brought the long conflict to an end.
Petition
A formal written request to someone in authority, signed by a group of people.
Boycott
Boycott means to refuse to buy certain goods, and services.
Repeal
Repealed means the same thing as canceled.
Writ of Assistance
Writ of Assistance means to be allowed to inspect a ship’s cargo without giving a reason.
Committee of Correspondence
Committee of Correspondence means to later expand on the idea of a letter-writing campaign by forming a committee of correspondence.
Civil Disobedience
Civil Disobedience is the nonviolent refusal to obey laws that one considers unjust.
Militia
A militia is an army of citizens who serve as soldiers during an emergency.
Minutemen
A minutemen keep their muskets at hand, and were prepared to fight at a minute’s notice.
Patriots
Patriots are colonists who favored war against Britain.
Loyalists
Loyalists are American colonists who remained loyal to Britain.
Blockade
A blockade is the shutting of a port to keep people or supplies from moving in or out.
Mercenary
Mercenaries are like troops for hire.
Traitor
A traitor is a person who betrays his or her country.
Preamble
Preamble is like an introduction.
Natural Rights
Natural Rights is like rights that belong to all people from birth.
Unalienable Rights
Unalienable Rights is the rights to be free, and to choose how to live.
Calvary
Calvary is like troops on horseback.
Guerrilla
Guerrilla is like hit, and run tactics to harass the British.
Siege
A siege occurs when an army surrounds, and blockades an enemy position in an attempt to capture it.

Ratify means to be approved.
