What does government mean?
The body with power to make decisions into act.
What is Canada’s constitution called?
Charter Rights Of Freedom.
What is the executive branch?
includes the prime minister and the cabinet
who is in the legislative branch
includes the house of commons, the senate and the governor general
what does the legislative branch do
it is the part of government that makes the law
what are constituents
the people who live in a riding and are represented by an elected official from that riding
what are minorities
groups in societies who do not form the majority of the population
what is the judicial branch
the part of the government interprets and applies the law by making legal judgement
what are the main points of the federal accountability act
- responsible and accountable spending by government
- protection for government employees who blow the whistle about government wrong doings
what is the BNA act?
an act that made first nations peoples responsibilities of the government
assimilation
the process of becoming part of a different cultural group (than your own)
what is bias?
an opinion based on unchallenged assumptions
who are lobbyists?
- someone hired to influence MPs and government officials
- must be registered with a commissioner of a lobbyist so people know who they represent
- they must document which MPs they meet with according to the federal accountability act
what is the point or goal of a lobbyist?
lobbyists represent different perspective of different groups on issues that effect canadians, so they can bring relevant issues up with MPs
What is the structure of canada’s federal political system?
executive branch - > legislative branch -> judicial branch
