Chapter 1 Flashcards
(6 cards)
What are the basic units of mass, length, and time used in physics?
Mass- kilogram which is the mass of a Specific platinum-iridium alloy cylinder
Length- meter which is the distance traveled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299 792 458 second
Time- second which is 9 192 631 700 times the period of oscillation of radiation from the crisis atom
What is miles to kilometres?
Feet to meters?
Meters to inches?
1 mile = 1.609 km
1 foot = 0.304 meters
1 meter = 39.37 inches
How do you find Ax and Ay on a graph with a hypotenuse and triangle?
Page 18 and 19
Start with Cosθ=Adjacent/hypotenuse and Sinθ=Opposite/hypotenuse
Then depending where Ax and Ay are on the graph you might end up with 1 of 2 option say Cosθ=Ax/A -> Ax=ACosθ and
Sonθ=Ay/A -> Ay=ASinθ
What is the process in answering physics questions?
- Read problem
- Make a sketch
- Identify information given and put on sketch then identify information being asked
- Identify the relationship between the variables
- Write down the equations that relate to the variables
- Solve the equations algebraically for the variable you want
- Substitute the known values in for the equation
- Check your answer
When calculating with error calculations what do you round the error to? Then do you use sig figs for the actually answer?
You round to two decimal places for the error and round he final answer to the same decimal places as the error
NOT SIG FIGS
What does a change in velocity mean?
Means a change in speed, direction, or both
This is acceleration
A car going constant speed around a curve have a changing velocity and therefore has acceleration
