Independent variable
the cause and its value is independent of other variables in the study.
Dependent variable
the effect and its value depends on changes in the independent variable.
Population
the entire group you want to draw conclusions about.
Sample
a specific group you will collect data from.
Parameters
a measure that describes the whole population.
Statistics
a measure that describes the sample.
Random sampling
is the method you use to select individuals from the population to participate in your study.
Random assignment
is the method used to place participants into groups in an experimental study.
Descriptive statistics
describes data (e.g. chart or graph)
Inferential statistics
allows you to make predictions from the data.
