Chapter 1- Basics Flashcards
(16 cards)
What is ATP
Adenicin try phosphate
Name some biological molecules
- protein
- carbohydrates
- lipids
- nucleic acids
What is the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction
Sexual reproduction : not necessarily having sex - egg is fertilized with sperm or egg fertilized it’s self in some cases and progeny is a recombination of parents
A sexual reproduction- had nothing to do with sex or fertilization and progeny is the exact same as parent
What does CHONP(s) stand for ?
Carbon Hydrogen Oxygen Nitrogen Phosphorous Sulfur
What is bigger than an atom but not as big as an organelle ?
Biological molecules
What is bigger than an organelle but not as big as tissue ?
Cells
What is the smallest most basic thing of a living organism
Organic atoms
Organic atoms-biological molecules -organelle-cells-tissue-organs-> ?
Organ systems
What does is mean to maintain homeostasis
To have a steady level (state) of internal conditions regardless if external conditions
Organization is what to to a living thing?
High degree of order within an organisms internal and external parts
What are the 6 characteristics of life
Reproduction, response , respiration, growth/development, cells, homeostasis
List the levels of organization BACKWARDS
Organism Organs system Organ Tissue Specific cells Organelle Biological molecules Atoms
What is a cell?
Building block (smallest of life process)
What is Unicellular
One cell
What is multicellular ?
Having more than one cell in an organism
How many organisms are there in the human body?
Endocrine Nervous Respiratory Digestion Circulatory Muscular Skeletal
