What assumption is made by objectivists?
There is something inherently deviant about a person or behaviour
What are the four objectivist criteria for determining deviance?
Statistical rarity, harm, societal reaction, normative violation
Folkways
Informal norms; violation results in being perceived as odd
Mores
Foundations of morality of a given society within a given time; violation results in being perceived as immoral
Absolutist vs relativist view of normative violation
inherent vs. contextual deviance

Description (placing a label on an individual due to a percieved/observed characteristic), evaluation (judgements about that person), prescription (attempts to regulate the individual)
