Define leadership:
A process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal.
Describe Trait Leadership.
-focuses on the leader specifically
innate characteristics/qualities and how they differentiate from others
-resides in only select people
-reflects the Personality Trait Theory in psychology
What type of Leadership is describe as follows:
- interaction between leader and followers
- Behavioral=-can be observed and learned
- NOT innate
Process Leadership.
Leadership that is based in occupying a position within an organization demonstrates which type of leadership?
Assigned (captains, department heads)
Can assigned or emergent leadership be affected by gender and race?
Emergent, not assigned.
Describe emergent leadership.
An individual perceived by others as the most influential member of a group without any title. (not the captain but a leader of the team)
What term has the capacity or potential to influence other attitudes and beliefs?
Power.
What is authority?
Legitimate power having a formal job or position (head coach)
What are the 5 bases of social power?
1) Referent Power
2) Expert Power
3) Legitimate Power
4) Reward Power
5) Coercive Power
