What is a memory card?

A

A secondary storage device that allows users to store, back up, copy and remove their files. Users can choose an appropriate card size, according to what they are using them for. Different devices have different card sizes, SD and SDHC cards are commonly used, but there are others. It is measured in GB.

A

Secure Digital (SD) cards are one type of flash memory card which store up to 2GB of data. Secure Digital High capacity (SDHC) cards are another type of flash memory card and are ideal for video cameras because they can store up to 32GB of data.

Describe a music and video player

A

Music and video players are a standard feature of many phones. The music and video files are stored in different formats, eg MP3 and WAV for music and MP4 AVI and WMV for video. Different phones allow you to play different file formats, which may or may not be compatible with your computer. WMV is usually compatible, as most computers have windows media player and macs and apple devices can play them using O player HD.

A

Allows the exchange of data, over short distances, from fixed and mobile devices. In order for devices to communicate they must be able to understand the Bluetooth rules (protocols)

What is wifi?

A

Wireless fidelity (similar to Bluetooth) is used to communicate but over longer distances, as the signals can travel further, and used to exchange data if the device is within the wifi range. If the wifi is down, it can cause unwanted glitches and freezes, spoiling the experience, and some areas may be out of range.

Describe how phones access email accounts

A

If you want to access email accounts use POP3 or IMAP 4 . Pop3 allows you to download your entire inbox, saving space on the server. It is a one way connection between server and computer. It can only be accessed from one computer and deletes the email from the server once downloaded, so there is no recovery option. IMAP4 allows you to view your inbox and sub folders on the server storing the cache locally. It can be accessed from multiple devices and is a two way connection between device and server.
