37
Sclerosis
Hardening
38
Acute
New in symptomology, starts abruptly
39
Chronic
Lasting a long term, may be mild or severe, prone to relapse, or permanent in nature.
40
Edema
Excessive accumulation of fluid, mainly water in the tissue spaces of the body ( swelling)
41
Dyspnea
Difficulty in the ability to breathe
42
Syncope
Fainting
43
Spasm
A strong involuntary contraction of muscle tissue
44
Twitch
A single isolated sudden contraction of muscle tissue
45
Vertigo
Dizziness
46
Arthritis
Acute or chronic inflammation and irritation at a joint usually accompanied with pain
47
Bursitis
An inflammation of the fluid filled bursa sacs, which act as a cushion. They are located were attending or ligament rubs against other tissue within the joints.
48
Disc Bulge
A protrusion of the nucleus pulpoaus, which remains covered by the annular fibers and posterior longitudinal ligament
49
Disc herniation
A tear in the end you annulus fibrosis with extension of the nuclear material through the anulus into the spinal canal with no loss of continuity of the extended material.
50
Epicondylitis
Inflammation, irritation and pain in the medial, or more often, the lateral epicondyle of the humerus
51
Fibromyalgia
An autoimmune condition of muscle producing swelling chronic pain and tender nodules with in muscle tissue
52
Osteoarthritis
A degenerative , inflammatory joint condition in which the articular cartilage softens, producing pain and stiffness especially after inactivity
53
Osteoporosis
A condition common among postmenopausal women in which a greater number of bone cells are destroyed that are synthesized.
54
Rheumatoid arthritis
An autoimmune form of arthritis, more common in women, in which the synovial lining will thicken, causing inflammation, pain stiffness and nodular formation.
55
Sprain
When a ligament is stretched beyond it's normal elastic limit resulting in injury
56
Strain
When a muscle is stretched beyond its normal elastic limit, resulting in a traumatic injury
57
Tendinitis
An inflammation of the specialized connective tissue which acts to unite muscle to bone.
58
Synovitis
Inflammation of the synovial lining of the joint capsule.
59
Angina pectoris
Chest pains result when the myocardium has decreased oxygen and nutrients because of inadequate coronary circulation.
60
Arrhythmia
An irregular heart rate
61
Arteriosclerosis
Artery disease hardening of the arteries and loss of elasticity in the arterial walls
62
Atherosclerosis
Hardening of the arteries due to the formation of plaque, which obstructs arterial blood flow within the arteries
63
Bradycardia
An abnormally slow heart rate less than 60 beats per minutes.
64
Coronary occlusion
An obstruction in a coronary artery
65
Hypertension
Elevated blood pressure such that the systolic measurement is greater than or equal to 140 mm HG and the diastolic measurement is greater than or equal to 90 mm HG confirmed on two separate occasions
66
Myocardial infarction
Heart attack, when myocardial cells are deprived of their blood supply.
67
Tachycardia
An abnormally fast heart rate.
68
Stroke/cerebrovascular accident CVA
A compromise of blood flow to the brain, atherosclerotic changes In vessel walls or rupture of the cerebral vessel.
69
Diabetes mellitus
A condition in which the body maintains an elevated level of blood glucose. There are a variety of etiologies. The two categories are Type 1 insulin-dependent, and type 2 non-insolent dependent
70
Asthma
A narrowing of the bronchial airways, causing difficulty breathing, dyspnea
71
The four major heart diseases
1. Coronary heart disease CHD
2. Cerebrovascular disease
3. Congestive heart failure
4. Peripheral vascular disease
72
Three major coronary arteries
1. Right coronary artery
2. Left anterior descending artery
3. Circumflex artery
73
Ischemic , clot
An obstruction with in a blood vessels supplying blood to the brain.
74
Stroke – thrombotic
Clot that develops inside the blood vessels of the brain
75
Stroke – Embolic
Caused by a blood clot or plaque and debris somewhere else in the body and travels to one of the blood vessels in the brain
76
Hemorrhagic
When a blood vessel ruptures
77
TIA/transient ischemic attack
Warning sign – caused by a temporary clot. Often called a mini stroke.
78
Peripheral vascular disease
Atherosclerosis in the lower extremities
79
Cardiovascular disease CVD risk factors
Hypertension. Dyslipidemia. Cigarette smoking. Prediabetes. A family history of myocardial infarction and or sudden death in the parents or first degree relative prior to the age of 55 years for males and 65 for females. Obesity – a BMI of greater than or equal to 30 or waist girth of 40 inches for men and 35 inches for women. Sedentary lifestyle. Age men greater than or equal to 45 years or women 55
