What are the 4 theories on the origin of the state?
The divine right theory, social contract theory, evolutionary theory, force theory.
What are the 4 essential features of a state?
Population, territory, sovereignty, government.
What are the 4 purposes of a government?
To maintain social order, providing public services, providing national security, economic decisions.
What are the 3 purposes of a constitution?
To have ideals we believe in, supreme law of the land, and establish the basic structure.
What is the preamble?
A statement in a constitution that sets forth the goals and purposes of government.
What is politics?
The effort to control or influence the conduct and policies of government.
What is socialism?
An economic system in which the government owns everything. Production, social services, health care.

A worker that produces the goods.

Economic system in which buyers and sellers make free choices in the marketplace.

A government in which the people rule.

A theory that by contract, people surrender to the state the power needed to maintain order, and in return the government protects the citizens.

The opportunity to control ones own economic decisions.

The philosophy that the government should keep its hands off the economy.
