Q

What is the education impact of gaming applications?
allows users to apply, leaderboards, different roles, increase motivation

A

-allow users to appply their knowledge and support their learning in a virtual world.
-leaderboards motivate individuals to improve their scores.
-Users can also take on different roles in the game and reflect on what is happening in certain situations
-gaming applications can increase the motivation and communication skills of the learner.

Q

What is the impact of gaming applications in the workplace?

A

-used to support learning.
-games are designed with rules & increasing levels of difficulty; the user mist comply with the rules and cannot move on to the next level who out completing the prior.
-Each level provides new challenge to the user which makes games attractive for training purposes.
-Games provide immediate feedback, helping users to evaluate what has been achieved and make decisions on which activity to do next

Q

What is the social impact of gaming applications?

A

-Gaming allows users to join. Online gaming groups where they can compete against each other on a global scale using the internet.
-Social gaming applications encourage collaboration where a group of users work together to solve a problem.
-Microphones and headsets allow users to communicate in real time.

Q

What are simulations?

A

Simulations use a computer model to represent a ‘real life’ objects. Models are created from large volumes if data, along with mathematical equations, to produce 3D graphics to represent the object. These models are then used to simulate the actions and reactions of the real life object.

Q

Describe the industrial uses for simulations:

A

-Used by car manufacturers to test cars during the design stage to see what happens to them when they crash.
-Used by architects to create new models of new buildings before they are built to test how they would be impacted by natural disasters such as flooding.

Q

What is VR?

A

-Virtual Reality uses simulations to create ‘rel’ experiences and a virtual world.
-They have great potential for training people in the workplace.
-VR immerses the user in a 3D world using specialist hardware.
-These devices can stimulate a combination of human senses to allow the user to feel they are experiencing a real situation.

Q

What are simulators?

A

-Can be used successfully to train people for jobs with a high risk of endangering life.
-Training a pilot to fly a plane is expensive (eg fuel costs)
-Using aircraft simulators, a pilot can be trained for a range of different ‘real’ experiences such as turbulence or engine failure.
-The pilot’s actions can be records by the computer system and provide feedback for both the pilot and trainer.

Q

Describe the medical usage of simulators:

A

-Body scanners are used to collect large amounts of data about a person’s internal system and a computer can then be used to produce a 3D model of this, creating a virtual patient.
-This can then be used to brief and train a surgeon before using real surgery to deal with a medical problem.
-Surgeons can plan and practise a particular operation on the virtual patient before actually carrying it it.
-Useful for trainee doctors

Q

What are the educational implications of mobile phone applications?

A

-Opportunities for teaching online.
-Eg ‘Teams’ available on mobile devices.
-This (and cloud technology) allow students to access these apps from home and school to complete assignments.
-Also relates providing training programs in the workplace.

Q

What are the advantages of online banking for the bank?

A

-Banks save money.
-Fewer branches mean fewer staff which leads to a reduction in wage costs.
-Can provide online-only products like e-statements which save paper amd postage costs.
-Attract a bigger consumer base because consumers don’t need to live near a branch.

17
Q

What are the disadvantages of online banking for the bank?

A

-Online banking requires the storage of large volumes of personal data.
-This calls for complex security systems to be implemented and maintained.
-Security procedures must be reviewed and updated as technology develops.
-banks should employ specialist technical staff eg staff to maintain their website.

18
Q

Give the advantages of online training:

A

-Employees can learn at a time that is convenient and they can work at their own pace.
-Employers also gain here because travelling to training venues can take up valuable staff time.
-Employees in different office locations can easily access the training at the same time.

19
Q

Give the disadvantages of online training:

A

-Traditional training allows opportunities for employees to ask questions face-to-face but with online training support is often limited to an FAQ.
-An organisation may feel that they are not in full control of the training
even though they can track progress of the employees.
-Over reliance on the technology needed for online training can also
cause problems. For example, a poor internet connection could interrupt

20
Q

Give the advantages of e-commerce:

A

-Convenient as less time is spent travelling.
-Reviews and price comparisons available.
-Greater choice and availability [nothing out of stock]
-Fewer employees.
-Benefit of looking through reviews

21
Q

Give the disadvantages of e-commerce:

A

-Possibility of scams from unauthentic websites
-Misleading descriptions
-Inconvenience of returns
-Time delay of delivery
-Cost of delivery
-Possibility it won’t arrive for events eg Xmas.
