Q

What are the 3 main types of neurons, and what do they do?

A

Sensory neurons: gather information from sensory receptors and transmit these impulses to the CNS
Interneurons: are found only in the CNS, they act as a link between sensory and motor neurons
Motor neurons: conduct impulses from the interneurons to the effectors (muscles or glands)

Q

What are glial cells ? What is it’s use in the NS

A

Glial cells account for about half of the volume of the nervous system. Glial cells nourish the neurons , remove their waste, and defend against infection

Q

Where are dendrites located? And what is their function ?

A

Dendrites are short, branching terminals at the end of a Neuron .
They receive nerve impulses from other neurons or sensory receptors and relay the impulse to the cell body

Q

What is the function of the cell body in a Neuron ?

Q

What is an axon and where is it located in a neuron?

A

A Neuron typically has one axon
. Its that long skinny stringy thing in a neuron.
Axons conducts impulses away from the cell body also axons can either be Myelinated needed or unmyelinated

Q

How is myelin sheath formed , and what is it’s purpose ?

A

Schwan cells a type of glial cell form Myelin by wrapping themselves around the Axon the Myelin sheath protects the neurons and speeds the rate of nerve impulse transmissions
