CHAPTER 12 - PLANNING: ESSENTIAL TO INSTRUCTION Flashcards
(26 cards)
defining the purpose of a school and its unique characteristics
mission statement
objectives written for a unit of instruction that centers on one theme and usually lasts several weeks
unit goals
broad or general educational outcome
goals
specifies instructional goals for various subject matters and grade levels
curriculum guide
a specific instructional goal
objective
stipulates that a well-written objective includes performance, conditions, and criterion
Mager’s three-part system or behavioral objective
stipulates an objective; includes a general term such as to understand or know followed by specific learner outcomes
Gronlund’s instructional objective format
The __________ of objectives is of the utmost concern to many educators. Objectives in this domain pertain to intellectual knowledge, skills, and abilities, which are classified on the basis of increasing complexity.
cognitive domain
this category of objective involves the recall of specifics and universals, methods and processes, or any pattern, structure, or setting.
knowledge
This lowest level of intellectual skill requires understanding material (knowledge of what is being “said” in verbal, pictorial, or symbolic form) without necessarily relating it to other information or gaining insight into its full implications.
Comprehension
The putting together of parts so as to form a whole. Arranging or combining elements to constitute a pattern or structure not clearly present before.
Synthesis
This category of objective includes using abstractions in
general situations. The abstractions may be general ideas, rules, methods, principles, or theories to be applied in a particular situation.
Application
Breaking down a communication into its constituent parts to detect the relations between the parts or to clarify the organizing principles. Analysis may also be directed at the techniques or means used to communicate an effect.
Analysis
Judging the value or worth of material and methods for given purposes. Making quantitative and qualitative judgments about the extent to which something satisfies criteria. Criteria may be determined by the student or given.
Evaluation
objectives for student attitudes, values, and emotional growth; domain includes five basic categories: receiving, responding, valuing, organization, and characterization
affective domain
objectives involving physical ability
psychomotor domain
this approach of conceptualizing student learning capabilities includes verbal information, intellectual skills, cognitive strategies, attitude, and motor skills
Gagne’s outcomes of learning
is the learned capability that enables children to communicate about objects, events, or certain relationships.
Verbal information
this is very important for the teachers to consider as they undertook the planning process. It is referred to capability to internally organize skills that regulates the use of concepts and skills
cognitive strategies
Gagne described ______ as an acquired internal state that influences the student’s choice of personal action.
attitudes
Gagbne proposed that these were another critical skill for teachers to consider as they made planning decisions.
motor skills
a seven-step model incorporating focus set, objectives, input, modeling, monitoring, and guided and independent practice
Hunter model of planning
then philosophical position that a child builds his or her own knowledge
constructivist model
Hunter’s seven elements of effective lessons are:
1 focus set
2 objective
3 instructional input
4 modelling
5 check for understanding monitor
6 guided practice
7 independent practice
