A

in order to find this, it aligned itslef with the political landscape of the eaely 20th century

the discipline shaped itslef to align withh the natural sciences, with the rise of positivissm and ststistical methods
psychologyy was heavily infleunced by popular science of the time and tried to embbed itslef with dawinism

in doing this, psych has always situated itslef in the contemporary sociopolitical sphere

ergo its thoeries are findings are inevitably socioculturally bound

A

two simila diagnostic diagnostic manuals are used DSM-5-TR and the ICD-10

given that there are no reliable biomarkers for mentla illness, descriptive criteria, developed bu psyhciatrists must be used for definition and diagnosis , updated every 10 years

Q

diagnostic oundries problems - aspergers syndrome

A

whrn the dms5 was published in 2013, it changed the criteria for an autism diagnosis. aspergers syndrome was replaced with autistic spectrum disorder

however the criterial has changed slighly, meabing that around 8% of indivudlas who met the criteria for aspergers who did not meet the criteria for asd

for that 8% thye went from being autistic, a condition thought t o be lifelong to not having any mentla halth issues

this dorced people to drastically think again about whho they are, their identity and theur place in the world

this presented issues as to whether those inividuals could continue to recieve diability beenfitd and other types of support

how we understand health in the uk

A

as of 2014, mental helaht services in the uk werre focrced to show ecidence of quan outcome in order to contiue to secure fundings

services invariably use the pateint health questioaure and the generalised anxiety disorder assessment

in england the govermnets flagship psycholoogical therpaies program treats over a million epople with mild to moderate mental health issus per year

for iapt recovery means a reduction of phq-9 and gad-7 scored to below a certain thershold

howveer both meaures are constructed in way that empahsises fucntioning

neither measure accuratly assesses quality of life: feeling goog about youself/feeling safe/ feeling well/ having high self esteem/ feeling confident
