Chapter 13 Flashcards
(6 cards)
Marginal means
Arithmetic means for each level of IV averaging over levels of the other IV. If sample size is equal-marginal means are simple average. If sample size unequal-marginal means will b computed using weighted average, counting larger sample more.
Main Effect
In factorial design, overall effect of one IV on DV, averaging over levels of IV.
Participant Variable
Variable such age, gender, ethnicity whose levels are selected (measured), not manipulated.
Cell
Condition in an experiment, simple experiment-cell represent level of one IV, in a factorial design-cell represents one of the possible combinations of two IV.
Factorial design
Study in which there are two or more IV or factors.
Interaction effect
Result fr factorial design, in which difference in levels of one IV changes, depending on level of other IV; difference in differences.
