Q

What is start up mode of bridge

A

When system boot up and table is empty. On receiving first frame as bridge does not have any source address, so it broadcast it everywhere. It is called start up mode.

Q

What are 2 common ways for bridging across longer distance

A
  1. Leased serial line connection (less expensive) e.g. PTCL cable for Pakistan
  2. Leased satellite channel (can span arbitrarily long distances)

Q

What is distributed spanning tree

A

Its a solution of broadcast frames problem in cycle of bridge. It is we need to stop these 2 rules to implement same time
1. There is a cycle of bridge
2. Every bridge broadcast frame.
Distributed spanning tree is an automated solution that selects which bridge broadcast frame and which not.
