What is an earthquake
And earthquake Consists of a series of shock waves traveling through the earth
It is an elastic rebound
The movement of rocks shift to their unstressed positions
What is a seismograph
used to detect and measure earthquake waves
What is the Richter scale
Named For Charles Richter used to rate
earthquakes
What is the magnitude
Magnitude is the energy released from an earthquake
What is intensity
Intensity is the measure of the destructiveness of an earthquake
What is focus
Focus is the center of an earthquakes activity
What is an epicenter
The epicenter is the place on the earths surface that is directly above the earthquakes focus(center)
What is a tsunami
Devastating waves
What is a P wave
A P wave is the first wave of an earthquake
What is a S wave
A S wave is the second wave of an earthquake
What is a L wave
The L wave is the last wave of an earthquake. It is the most destructive wave
What is a volcano
A volcano is a landform built up by solidified molten rock that has come to the earths surface through a vent from a source of magma deep in the earth
What is a vent
A hole widened by magma
What is lava
Magma above the surface
What is a volcanic cone
It is where ejected lava may solidify around the vent
What is a crater
A crater is a depression at the top of the volcanic cone
What is it caldera
I caldera is a huge depression on top of the volcano
What is a glowing avalanche
A hot mixture of solid particles suspended in water vapor or other gases
What is the lahar
I lahar is a volcanic mudslide
What is a fumaroles
Fumaroles are vents in the ground
What is Ash
Ash is a fine mist of solid lots of particles
What is pyroclastic material
Pyroclastic materials are solidified lava containing ash senders bombs and sometimes large chunks of rock
What is tephra
Tephra is an accumulation of loose ash
