Chapter 17 and 18 Flashcards
(37 cards)
How many orders of branching are there in the lungs?
23 orders
Conducting zone?
All the ridges tube (at the end is the alveoli)
Gas exchange takes place….
In the respiratory zone primary the alveoli
Type 1 alveolar cell
has tight junctions, prevents fueled from getting in were gas is being exchange
Type 2 alveolar cell
secretes surfactant, lubricates, reduces surface tension
What are the Four distinct processes that must happen for respiration?
Pulmonary ventilation
External respiration
Internal respiration
Transport
What occurs in pulmonary ventilation?
Moving of air in and out of your lungs….
Function of Pulmonary ventilation
Carbon dioxide build up prevention
Continuous Oxygen supply to tissues
Involves two phases external/ internal respiration
What does Boyle’s Gas Law have to do with?
pressure and volume.
What type of relationship does pressure and Volume have?
They have an inverse relationship, if pressure goes UP then voulme goes DOWN , if voulme DECREASE then pressure INCREASES
What muscles are important to the lungs?
Diaphragm and Intercostals muscles
Inspiration/ breathing in
Diaphragm contracts and moves UP: your external intercostals muscles CONTRACT
Expiration
Diaphragm moves superior as it relax and internal intercostals muscles relaxes
Active breathing
Internal intercostals muscles
Normal Breathing
External Intercostal muscles
What is important for moving air in and out of your lungs?
Pressure
Where is the control center for ventilation?
The medulla
Which groups of neurons is responsible for normal breathing?
DRG
Which ones are responsible for active breathing?
VRG
PRG controls transition between….
DRG and VRG
DRG controls which muscles?
external and diaphragm
VRG controls which muscles?
internal and diaphragm
What type of variable influences ventilation? -34:08
Co2, O2 and PH
What sensory receptors provide information to the respiratory center?
Central chemoreceptors
Peripheral chemoreceptors
Stretch receptors
Irritant receptors
