Q

Writing Sequences guidelines

A

Guideline 1: The voice leading in the model and first copy must be correct. Because the copies merely restate the model (at a different pitch level), any faulty voice leading in the opening will blemish every copy.
Guideline 2: Write outer voices first. Try to incorporate contrary step motion between them and include at least one imperfect consonance.
Guideline 3: Prepare and resolve each chordal seventh.
Guideline 4: When you write Sequences involving inverted seventh chords, make sure each sonority is complete.
