Chapter 2 Flashcards
(19 cards)
Nervous system
Collection of neruons that reviece and process info
CNS
Central nervous sytem - brain and spial chord
PNS
Perphial nervous system- spianl to rest of body
Somatic nervous sytem - voluntery body movies
Autonomic nervous system - automatically regulates body internal word (visceral)
Nervous ystem organization
Bilateral and segemented section of vet only respond to that part of body
Sensory neruons
In the PNS, recptors on skin muscles, conveyifno to CNS
Somatosensory nerons- gather info from enviorment
Visceral sensory- info from internal organs
Motor neruons
In PNS Cause muscles to move Contact at neuromuscular junction Somatic motor neurons= allow us to muscle and move Autonomic motor neurons - control organs
Somatic nervous system
Sympatheic nervous sytem -flight of fight
Parasympatheic nervous system - rest and regnerate
Segmental organization
Sensory neuron enter
Motor nueron exit
Sensory input entoer dorsal enver root
Sensory input exit at ventral nerve root
Dermatome
Myotome
Each sensory neroun has a connection to a specifi part of the body
Motor neruon
Spinal cord
Input sensory
Output motor
Gray matter - cell body
Doral nerve in ventral nerve out
White matter - fibers axons an neurons
Reflexes
Monosynaptic - only one connection between neuron and sensory
Polysynaptic - intenrton neruon between sensory neuron and motor neuron circuit
Glial cells
Goo denviorment, provide gluecose and oxygen
Brainstem
Medulla, pons, midbrain
Cranial nerves 12 pairs-
12 cerebrium
rest brainstem
Function: sensory, motor, visceral , cranial nevers
Medulla - heart rate
Pons- singls between cerebellum and cerebrum
Cerebellum
Small brain
Refining motor control
Diencephalon
Hypothalamus - maintaining homeostatis
Thalamus - relay information
Hypothalamus and endocrine system
Automatic response - increase blood pressure heart rate
Endocrine response: produce hormone through pituitary gland
Behavior response: send alert to cerebral cotex
Thalamus
Relay information
Telencephalon
Cerebral cortext - wrinkle - high order function
Basal gangalia- gray matter area cortico striatal loops- connection btwen cortext and basial gangalia
Limbic system
Motivation memory and emotion
