ADLs
Activities of daily living:
“Personal care activities performed by residents everyday, which includes bathing, grooming, dressing, eating and hydrating, toileting, ambulating (walking), and exercising.” (Pg 14)
PPE
Personal protective equipment
Assault
Threat or actual TOUCHING of a resident without permission. (Pg 20)
Aiding and abetting
Participating in a unlawful act or observing it and not reporting it. (Pg 20)
Ex. Observing sexual harassment of a resident and not reporting it.
Abuse
A threat or actual physical or mental harm to a resident. (Pg 20)
False imprisonment
Preventing a resident from moving freely about, with or without force, against the resident’s wishes. (Pg 20)
Invasion of privacy
Failing to keep the resident’s affairs confidential or exposing the resident’s body when preforming care. (Pg 20)
Involuntary seclusion
Keeping a resident isolated from others as a form of punishment. (Pg 20)
Neglect
Accidently or deliberately ignoring the needs of a resident that results in harm or injury. (Pg 20)
Negligence
Either neglecting to act the manner in which you were taught, or omitting care or performing care incorrectly that results in harm to a resident. (Pg 20)
Theft
Taking something that does not belong to you. (Pg 20)
Beneficence
Doing good for others. (Pg 23)
Nonmaleficence
Do no harm. (Pg 23)
Battery
Unlawful personal violence towards a resident without permission. (Pg 20)
What does vital signs includes?
- Temperature
- Pulse
- Respiration
- Blood pressure
What can you do to help maintain infection control?
- Wash hands
- Handle contaminated objects with care
- Observe and Report environmental situations
Role of a Registered Nurse?
- Carry both medical plan of care prescribed by the physician as well as the nursing care plan developed by the nursing staff.
- Assess each resident and modifies the nursing care as needed to help meet the patients needs.
- Works under the supervision of the D.O.N.
