Chapter 2 Flashcards

1
Q

Atorvastatin

A

Hypolipidemic agents

Inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase, blockade of synthesis of cholesterol precursor- mevalonic acid in liver, increases number of hepatic LDL receptors on the cell surface to enhance uptake and catabolism of LDL, thus lowering plasma lipoprotein and cholesterol levels, hypolipidemic, pleiotropic( enchanted stability of atherosclerotic plaques) effects

Dyslipidemias, prophylaxis of cardiovascular diseases

Q

Bevacizumab

A

Antineoplastic agent, recombinant humanized monoclonal IgGI antibobdy

Binds to VEGF and inhibits the interaction of VEGF to receptors on the surface of endothelial cells. In the process, it prevents the proliferation of endothelial cells and formation of new blood vessels, antiblastic action

Neoplasms( breast, colorectal, lung, renal) Age related macular degeneration
