Q

EVS vs SVS

In the MFD

A

Multifunction display

EVS - Enhanced vision system - provides a display of the forward external scene topography through the use of imaging sensors, such as forward looking infrared, millimeter wave radio entry or radar, and low level image intensifying.

SVS - Synthetic vision system - is a computer-generated image of the surrounding topography created from database of terrain, obstacles, and cultural features and a navigation source for the aircraft’s position, altitude, heading and track.

Q

EAS

A

Equivalent airspeed is calibrated airspeed corrected for adiabatic compressible flow at a particular altitude. At airspeeds above 200 kts and altitudes abv 20,000 ft, air is compressed in front of an aircraft as it passes through the air. Compressibility causes abnormally high airspeed indications, so EAS is lower than CAS.

Q

ADC

A

Air Data Computer

The pitot tube, static source, and outside air temperature probe provide information to the ADC, which uses these inputs to determine the appropriate reading for airspeed indicator, altimeter, and VSI.

Q

When performing compass turns to a northerly heading in the northern hemisphere, roll out …

A

Before the compass reaches the desired heading.

17
Q

When you turn yo a southerly heading,

A

wait until the compass passes the desired heading.

18
Q

To recover from a nose-high unusual attitude:

A
  1. Add power
  2. Lower the nose
  3. Level the wings
  4. Return to the original attitude and heading

Do it almost simultaneously, though

19
Q

To recover from a nose-low unusual attitude:

A
  1. Reduce power
  2. Level the wings
  3. Raise the nose to place the aircraft symbol on the horizon line of the attitude indicator

Do it almost simultaneously

20
Q

SSV
what is that and where can it be found ?
Related to VORs

A

Standard Service Volume
VOR facilities are classified according to SSV : Terminal, low and high altitude

SSV can be found in the Chart Supplement

21
Q

To use a VOR for flight under IFR, the VOR system must have been tested for accuracy within the preceding …..

22
Q

RAIM

A

Receiver automous integrity monitoring
The equipment monitors and compares signals from multiple satellites to ensure an accurate signal.
Required for IFR according to TSO-C129

23
Q

When airspeed is increased in a turn, what must be done to maintain a constant altitude?

A

Increase the angle of bank and/or decrease the pitch attitude.

24
Q

The pressure altitude is the altitude read on your altimeter when the instrument is adjusted to indicate height above

A

the standard datum plane

25
You check the flight instruments while taxiing and find that the VSI indicates a decent of 100 feet per minute. Can you take off under IFR?
Yes, just use 100-foot decent as the zero indication. Since the VSI is not a required instrument.
26
At or above 18,000 feet MSL, the altimeter is set to 29.92” Hg. What kind of altitude your altimeter indicates? Calibrated, indicated, pressure ?
Pressure
27
The displacement of a turn coordinator during a coordinated turn will ...
Increase as angle of bank increases
28
Where can the VOT frequency for a particular airport be found?
Only in the Airport/Facility Directory.
29
To level off from a descent at a specific altitude, the pilot should lead the level-off by approximately...
10% of the vertical speed
30
When an aircraft is decelerated, some attitude indicators will precess and incorrectly indicate a ...
Descent
31
What should be the indication on the magnetic compass as you roll into a standard rate turn to the left from a west heading in the Northern Hemisphere?
The compass will indicate the approximate correct magnetic heading if the roll into the turn is smooth.
32
Relative bearing
The angle between the nose of the airplane and the NDB (non-directional beacon)
33
Most VOR signals guarantee service ...
40 NM
34
Distance to Station =
Time to Station (mins) x TAS (NM/min)
35
Conditions that determine the pitch attitude required to maintain level flight are ...
Airspeed, air density, wing design, and angle of attack.
36
First fundamental skill in attitude instrument flying
Instrument cross-check.
37
On the taxi check, the magnetic compass should ...
Swing freely and indicate known headings.
38
What is the first indication of a station passage when using VOR?
Complete reversal of the TO-FROM indicator.
