Old Testament
The first 46 books of the Bible, which tell of God’s Covenant with the people of Israel and his plan for the salvation of all people.
Sacred Deposit
Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition form on sacred deposit of God’s revelation.
Interpretation
Explanation of the words of Scripture, combining human knowledge and the teaching office of the Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit
Revelation
God’s gift of himself to us and all that God has taught us about himself and His plan for his people
Law
The first five books of the Old Testament. The Hebrew word for the law is Torah. The ancient law is summarized in the 10 Commandments.
Torah
The Hebrew word instruction or law. It is also the name of the first 5 books of the Old Testament
Pentateuch
The first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Tells of Creation, the beginning of God’s special people and the Covernant
Tradition
The beliefs and practices of the Church that are passed down from one generation to the next under the guidance of the Holy Spirit
Inspiration
God’s guidance of the human authors and editors of the Bible that allowed them to pass on those truths God wanted to teach us
