Chapter 2 - Electrical circuits. Flashcards

Q

What is the difference in between parallel and a series circuit?

A

In a SERIES circuit, the current through each of the components is the same, and the voltage across the circuit is the sum of the voltages across each component. In a PARALLEL circuit, the voltage across each of the components is the same, and the total current is the sum of the currents through each component.

What are the use of the following things?

  • Voltmeter
  • Ammeter
  • Resistor
A

A voltmeter is used to measure the voltage of a circuit.

An ammeter is used to measure the amount of current in a circuit.

A resistor slows down the current in a circuit.

Theory for resistance:

We did an experiment. We connected 5 cables to the a voltmeter, ammeter, a motor and a battery. Then we plugged in two crocodiles to the motor to a ruler where a thin piece of wire went across it. The wire was cello-taped onto the ruler and on one side a crocodile was connected to the voltmeter and the other one that was on the other side of the ruler was connected to the ammeter. Then we attach one crocodile that W.S. attached to the motor onto 0 cm and the other one was on 60cm. As the crocodile cable was getting loser to the one that was on the zero, the thin wire would get hotter and would glow

A

This experiment has showed me that shorter the cable where the electrons can travel through the lower is the resistance and longer is the wire more resistance is happening.

Resistor at constant temperature? (On GoodNotes page 19)

A

R=V/I
As the voltage INCREASES as well does the current.
RESISTANCE IS CONSTANT.

What is a filament lamp? (GoodNotes - Page 19)

A

If the temperature stays constant then that means R=V/I When voltage increases as well does the current.
Directly proportional.

What is a diode? (GoodNotes page 19)

A

A diode is 100% the resistance to the current flow in opposite direction. in the forward direction the V=I*R relationship remains true as the graph (GoodNotes page 19) shows a straight line.

Direct proportionality: As Voltage increase as well does the current. Therefore resistance increases depending on the potential difference in the forwards direction.

It uses an OHMIC CONDUCTOR.
As the the temperatures thermistor increase as well does the current increases.
