Chapter 20 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Modeling
A sample of a given behavior is demonstrated to induce similar responding
Physical Guidance
Use physical contact to induce an individual to perform the desired response
Guidelines for Modeling
- Select peers or competent people to be models
- Use more than one model
- Match the complexity of behavior to the skills of the learner
- Use rules
- Have the learner watch the model and be reinforced – if
possible, use natural reinforcers - Sequence from easy to difficult
- To enhance generalization, model real-world as
much as possible - Fade out other stimuli so the model is a salient feature
Teaching with Acoustical Guidance
technique used to help teach complex skills and an article about how positive reinforcement can be used to help teach surgeons
Guidelines for Physical Guidance
- Be sure the learner is relaxed, comfortable, and that you have permission
- Arrange environment to have needed stimuli
- Consider using rules or cues
- Reinforcement should be given immediately after completion of response
- Progress from easy to difficult
Presenting physical contact to guide someone through appropriate behavior is called:
Physical guidance
Situational Inducement
Modification of the environment to produce the target response
Which of the following is not a proposed category of situational inducement?
Counterconditioning
In order to “get up the energy” to follow her usual exercise routine on a Saturday afternoon, the exercise buff places some dumbbells in the
center of the den (where she usually exercises) and turns on the TV to the local fitness channel. Which category of situational inducement is
the exerciser practicing?
Rearrange the existing surroundings
