A scandal that rocked the Harding administration. Many officials leased government land in Wyoming in exchange for cash. The Interior Secretary, Albert Fall, and the Navy Secretary, Edwin Denby, resigned and were sent to jail

Alfred E. Smith

A

The Democratic candidate in the 1928 election. He ran against Republican candidate, Herbert Hoover. Smith was a Catholic and had ties to Tammany Hall and the anti-prohibition movement. Much of the campaign centered around his religion and prohibition which in the end cost him the election
