-Owl eyes is analysing Gatsby’s library, as he was expecting everything to be fake, but it’s real.
-‘Belasco’ was a theatre director before WW1, showing that he recognises that whilst Gatsby’s house is real he is still putting on a performance.

I was looking at an elegant young roughneck, a year or two over thirty, whose elaborate formality of speech just missed being absurd

-Nicks depiction of Gatsby, which focuses on the contrast of his elegance and his roughness.
-How his speech seems artificial but not too ridiculous to Nicks ears (contrast to how Tom hears it)
