Chapter 3 Flashcards
(25 cards)
What is the distributive property?
A(b+c)=ab+ac
What is the commutative property?
a+b=b+a
a x b= b x a
What is the associative property?
(A+b)+c = a+(b+c)
a x b) x c = a x (b x c
What is the identity property?
a + 0 = a 0 + a = a
a x 1 = a 1 x a = a
What is the inverse property ?
a + (- a) = 0 a x (1/a) = 0
What is the equality property of addition?
What is the equality property of multiplication?
a = b, then a + c = b + c
a + b, then ac = bc
What is the Ruler Postulate?
It’s every point of a line can be placed in correspondence with a real number.
What is the Completeness Postulate?
Given a ray AC and any positive real number r there is exactly one point c on the Ray so that AC= r
What is the midpoint theorem ?
If M is the midpoint of AB then AM = 1/2AB
What is theorem 3.2 ?
It’s the perimeter of a regular n-gon with sides of length s is n x s.
What is a coordinate?
It’s the point on a line is the number that corresponds to the point.
What is the distance between two points?
AB = | a - b |
Subtract the two points and it will always turn into a positive number
Point M is between A and B
AM + MB = AB
A-M-B
What is a relation that is reflexive symmetric and transitive?
An equivalence relation
What is the midpoint?
It is the point in the middle of a segment.
What is a bisector ?
It is the curve that intersects the segment only at the midpoint.
What is a congruent segment ?
It is a segment that have the same length.
What is the perimeter?
It is the distance around a closed curve .
What is circumference ?
It is the distance around the circle
c/d = 3.14
C = 3.14 x d
C = 2( 3.14 ) r
What is an inscribed polygon?
It’s a polygon whose vertices are point of a circle
What is an inscribed angle?
It is an angle whose vertex is on a circle and whose sides each contain another point of s circle.
What is a polygon circumscribed about a circle ?
It’s a polygon whose sides each intersect the circle in one point.
What is a tangent line ?
It’s a line that is in the plane of a circle that intersects the circle in exactly one point.
What is the point of tangency ?
It’s the point at which a tangent line and a circle intersect.
