Q

What are the apocryphal gospels? Describe one and its message.

A

A group of writings about the life and teachings of Jesus that do not meet church criteria for inclusion in the New Testament canon. The term apocryphal means “hidden”. Most apocryphal writings date from the second through the fourth centuries, many years after the apocryphal era. Protoevangelium of James, which attempted to fill in some details about the childhood years of Jesus, was clearly apocryphal
