What is subsistence farming?
Producing enough to meet the needs of the individual family

Farming
What is commercial agriculture?
When larger amounts of crops are produced to make a profit
Why did New England farmers practice subsistence farming?
The soil wasn’t very good in he North, therefore not enough crops could be made to sell as profit so the farmers had to produce just enough for their own families
What were the two main industries of the New England colonies?
Shipbuilding and Fishing
What is the triangular trade?
Trade route between 3 destinations: sugar and molasses from West Indies to New England, molasses is turned into rum in New England to West Africa, slaves from West Africa to West Indie

molasses, rum, slaves

Middle Passage
