Galvanized = make them do
Forced into action, produced a strong reaction.
Ex: The town council was forced into action by the daily protests.
Prevalent
Widespread, common, occurring in many different places.
Ex: in this country,diabetes is all too common among those over forty.
Sadistic = hurt people
Enjoying the inflicting of pain, cruel, taking pleasure in the misery of others.
Ex: the mean concentration camp guard enjoyed seeing his victims struggle under the loads they had to carry.
Asylum
Place providing safety from harm.
Ex: the farmers being hunted by military police were hoping to find a safe place in the local church.
Genre= style
A particular category of film or literature.
Ex: in the mystery and horror category.
Consolidate= to put together
To combine separate effort into a unified whole.
Ex: The new city planner wanted to combine the three small towns into one.
Random= no plan
Not based on consistent pattern, happening by chance. Without any plan order.
Ex: the crime were without a pattern and that made them even more frightening to the neighborhood under attack.
Communal = belong to everybody.
Shared by a group or members of a community.
Ex: The introduction of neighborhood block watch had been a shared effort.
Adverse = bad
Unpleasant, negative.
Ex: the comment had clearly had a bad effect on the manager’s mood.
Speculate = to guess
Puts forth an idea or theory that is yet to be proven, suggests a theory.
Ex: I like to come up with theories about global warming.
Repressive= control
Restraining or restricting the freedom or a person or group.
Liberate
Free, break away from, a set free from bondage or foreign control.
Mutilation
Cutting or damaging of the body.
Detached
Separate and disconnected, uninvolved, lac kiting self-interest.
Deems= decided something
Consider, judge, evaluate, regard.
Compassion
A feeling for the suffering and pain of other, pity, inclinations to give help or support.
Flotilla= ship
A fleet of small ship, any small group.
Facilities
Spaces and equipment for performing down specific activity.
Discrimination
The act of showing prejudice in favor of or against a particular group.
Creed
Set of beliefs, religious belief.
