Chapter 5 Flashcards
(19 cards)
Force
Is simply a push or a pull.
Newton
The more newtons, the greater the force.
Fluid friction
Swimming,air push ageist the car
Motion
When an object is in motion, you can describe the direction of its
Motion with a reference direction,such as north,south,east,west,or
Up and down.
Balanced force
No motion
Spring scale
Something weight
Balance
Is the weight
Gravity
Is a force of attraction between objects that is due to their masses.
Velocity
Be careful not to confuse the terms speed and velocity
Acceleration
Is the rate at which velocity changes.
Net force
Is the force that results from combining all the forces
Static friction
When a force is applied to an object but does not cause the object to move.
Mass
The amount of matter in an object, and its value does not change.
Friction
A force that opposes motion between two surfaces are touching.
Rolling friction
The force of rolling friction is less than the force of sliding friction.
Weight
A measure of the gravitational force exerted on an object.
Speed
The rate at which an object moves.
Sliding friction
Sliding friction is very effective at opposing the movement of objects.
Lubricants
Substances that are applied to surfaces to reduce the friction between them.
