(6 cards)
Communicable (infectious) diseases
Communicable diseases (eg. flu) are caused by pathogens such as bacteria and viruses that can be passed from one person to another.
Non-Communicable diseases
Non-Communicable Diseases cannot be transmitted from one person to another (eg. Heart disease and arthritis).
Semmelweis hypothesis
Semmelweis hypothesis was that women where dying from birth very often. So he had an hypothesis that if people washed hands bacteria and viruses will not pass on thought the women or any ill patient. This was proven to be correct
Body defence : skin
Your skin covers your body and acts as a barrier. It prevents bacteria and viruses reaching the tissues beneath. If you damage or cut your skin, the barrier is broken but your body restores it.
Body defence : Nose
Your nose is full of hairs and produces a sticky liquid, called mucus. The hairs and mucus trap particles in the air that may contain pathogens or irritate your lungs.
Body defence : Bronchi and Trachea
The trachea and brochi also secrete mucus that traps pathogeens from the air.
