Igneous rocks, Sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks.
How are igneous rocks formed?
Formed by magma and lava cooling down.
How are sedimentary rocks formed?
Formed by rocks, plants and animal life wearing down and compressing.
How are metamorphic rocks formed?
When existing rocks are changed by great heat or great pressure.
Give an example of an igneous rock.
Granite, basalt.
Give an example of a sedimentary rock.
Sandstone, limestone.
Give an example of a metamorphic rock.
Marble, quartzite, slate.
What is extraction?
The way in which the rocks and minerals are mined or taken out of the earth.
What are the 3 types of extraction?
Open-cast mining, shaft-mining, drilling depending on depth, type.
What are 3 advantages of extraction?
Jobs, raw materials, roads are improved.
What are 3 disadvantages of extraction?
Noise pollution, floods, loss of farmland.
