Chapter 6 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Standard Form
Ax+By=C; where A, B, and C are real numbers
6.1- Graphing Lines
Definition of a Linear Function
All the points that satisfy them form a straight line
6.2
Definition of slope
Ratio of the rise(vertical change) to the run(horizontal change)
Formula for slope
M= rise y2-y1
—— = ———-
Run. x2-X11
6.3
How do you change a linear equation to slope-intercept form?
Solve the linear equation for Y, then arrange terms on the right side with the variable term first
Standard and slope intercept form formulas
Standard: Ax+By=C Slope Intercept: y=mx+b
6.4
Ways to write a linear equation w/ given information
- Slope and y-intercept of the line
- Slope and point of a line
- 2 points on the line
- The graph of the line
When the slope and any other point are known:
- Substitute the slope (=m)
- Put into the slope-intercept form
- Solve for b
How to solve when given the slope and y-intercept
Sub the variables (m and b) for the values in y=mx+b
