Chapter 6-Integration Flashcards
(67 cards)
(Types of heat loss) what’s radiation?
This is the primary way the body loses heat, it involves emission of infrared radiation, similar to how a fire emits radiation of heat. 🔥
Convection heat?
Heat is transferred from the body to surrounding air or water through movement of those fluids. Ex- sitting in front of a fan, moving air carries away the heat from your body. 🪭
Conduction is what?
Occurs when heat is transferred through direct contact between the body and another object. Sitting on a cold metal bench, heat will transfer from your body to the bench. 🥶
Evaporation?
Happens when water on the skin (like sweat💦) turns into vapor absorbing heat in the process. This is an effective way to cool the body especially during exercise or in hot weather 🌡️
Reasons to terminate CPR in a prehospital environment?
•Valid DNR is presented
•irreversible death signs are present
•Higher level of care is provided
•effective spontaneous circulation and ventilations are restored
Pain can be classified as?
Acute, chronic
The ____ nervous system is activated in the face of pain?
Sympathetic
Chronic pain is defined as?
Pain lasting longer than 6mo
Management of pain does what for patients?
Reduce energy consumption, allowing the body to rest + heal.
As an EMR you must assume
The role of health educator
Cardiopulmonary examination is what?
Lung sounds, jugular vein distension (JVD), pedal edema and EKG are included in this assessment 🚑
Obstetrics examination?
Check for crowning in a woman in labor
Neurological examination?
Assess Cincinnati stroke scale, cranial nerves, sensory and motor function of the extremities.
Rapid trauma examination?
Provided for trauma patients with significant MOI (method of injury) 🩸🤕
Physical examination
Provided for every patient on the ambulance 🚑❤️ 🩺
Detailed physical examination
Provided en route to hospital 🏥 typically a re assessment
Steps for a two responder CPR (adult)
1) open airway, use head tilt, chin lift or modified jaw thrusts
2)check for breathing 🫁
3) check carotid Pulse. max 10sec
4) one responder begins compressions, counting out loud
5) one responder gets AED and attaches it to patient for analyze
6) if shockable rhythm administer one shock
7) if non shockable rhythm immediately following shock, begin 5 cycles of 30 compression and 2 ventilations.
8) repeat 6,7&8 until rosc or ALS arrives. 🚑
What are the responsibilities of a code team leader?
EKG analysis
Give IV or IO medication
Help transition from BLS to ALS airway.
Reassessment after each CPR cycle
What’s gestational diabetes?
Increased maternal insulin production results in increased placental production. Which leads to an imbalance of mothers insulin and glucose production. 🤰
Pregnant women present with higher Pulse rate? 🫀
True!
When a pregnant woman goes into labor, the position she’s in stresses the cardiovascular system?
True
A BGL level of 4.2 mmol/L is within normal range?
True
If extensive resuscitation is needed for a neonate, optimally baby will transition to second ambulance 🚑 equipped with neonate transport incubator?
Correct
What IS NOT an inflammatory disorder of the heart?
Hypertension 🫀
