Mary is the mother of Jesus. this makes her the mother of the church. Christ passed her down when on the cross.

means to raise our hearts and minds to God. we are to unite ourselves to HIm.

It begins on Ash Wednesday. It's 40 days of penance to prepare for christ's death and resurrection.
