What was Mao position in the CCP?
Mao Zedong was appointed chairman of the party (dominant figure in Government).
Chairman of the central peoples consultative council ( equivalent to president)
Chairman of the Revolutionary military council.
He was not involved in the day to day policy making his role was to keep the ideaological debate over the basis of what all policy should be founded on,alive within the party. Mao referred to this the mass line .
How did the CCp influence the power structure?
The communist party was at the heart of everything, it administered the Military and state bureaucracy at a regional, national and provincial level.

How was there a democratic element to the ccp constitution?
1949 there was a political consullataive confernce that brought to get her representative from party branches all across china, however the congress met very infrequently.
While Mao tolerated 15 other parties and11/24 official elected to congress where not CCP, it was made very clear that the CCP was the authority and any challenges woud not be tolerated.
How did CCP membership grow?
October 1949 - 4,448,000 members
December 1950 - 5,821,000 memebers
However in a country of 500million people party membership seemed limited, this follows the Leninist concept of a Vanguard party, with membership limited to those who could display their loyalty to ideological correctness.
What were cadres?
A select group within the larger party that permeat all level of society teaching CCP values and allowed the CCP to ensure that the government system and armed orce where operating upon the guidance of the government. They were involved in legal system, schools colleges and the PLA with the CCP establishing branches in all aspects of day to day life.
What was the Purpose of Mass Autonomous Organisations?
Movement through which the CCP sought to involve he masses in its effort to transform society, fed into Mao Zedong idea of mass mobilisation.
These involved urban neighbourhood communities and public security which took responsibility for matter of public health and security, those where close observed by the party and cadres.
These organisations channeled the eagerly of the Chinese’s people and promoted a sense of unity of working towards a better party and country.
What was a Danwei?
A work unit into which every Chinese person in an urban area was organised. Work unit where led by party cadres and controlled the allocation of grain, housing, cooking oil and cloth. It also issued permits to travel, marry or join the army.
What is the Iron Rice Bowl principle?
A system under which the party officials and employees of state run enterprises lived under that promised them employment and income for life.
What was democratic centralism?
Party member where free to express opinion but the final decision was made by the party politburo and must be accepted.

How was the CCPS claim to power?
They had not been elected into power, they had taken it buy eliminating all their oppositions in the civil war, how ever thee was no widespread opposition to the ccp as hurry had brought peace to a war struck country.
Why did Mao continue a policy of a united front post civil war?
He needed countinued support from the urban working classes, the peasants, the national bourgeoisie and the petty bourgeoisie as he required the countinued co-operation of the groups in rebuilding the economy and consolidating the regime.
Why was the system of government called ‘The Peoples Democratic Dictatorship’?
A system based on the belief that china was not full ready for a totally socialist government and a transition stage was required to bridge the gap.
What are the Five Black Categories?
Those who did not constitute people in the eyes of the CCP thy included;

- bureaucratic capitalists
-enemies of the people
